“Cousin Jack” was a nickname for Cornish miners who migrated to other parts of the world to work in mines, bringing their expertise with them:
The origins of the nickname are unclear, but some say it came from miners asking for jobs for their “cousin Jack” back home. Others say it came from the miners greeting each other as “cousin”, and “Jack” was a popular name at the time.
The artwork inspired by this legend is woven using metal scraps from the decaying tin mines.
Weaving is all about straight lines - the challenge was to disrupt this and weave an entangled mess!
